Watch Matt Bauer's New Video For His "Under the Cherry Moon" Cover on Yvynyl!
"Juxtaposing 8-bit video games with crisply-lit but stark headlight night shots of escape makes about as much sense as a haunting, folky cover of a Prince song. But isn’t that why we like art? The ramblin’ man who claims his Honda Odyssey as his home just came out with his No Shape Can Hold Me Now LP onCrossbill Records." Listen now on YVYNYL.

Stream Matt Bauer's 'No Shape Can Hold Me Now' Over On American Songwriter!
“I wrote the first verse for ‘Andaman Sea’ a few years ago late at night in a super sketchy hotel room in London. There was a game show on called Golden Balls. There was a shared bathroom with three little stairs up to the toilet. I recorded the original demo with my friend Nive Neilsen the next day in her attic. The song stayed in a drawer for a while and some of the lyrics show up rewritten in another song on last year’s The Jessamine County Book of the Living." Matt Bauer Covers Prince's "Under the Cherry Moon" Premiered on Impose!
"Matt Bauer premieres his take on Prince's "Under the Cherry Moon" originally found on the album Parade and the title of the Revolution frontman's cinematic follow up to Purple Rain. And while the film from which this cover takes it's name has not enjoyed the same notoriety as Rain, Mr. Bauer here dons his best ruffled shirt and inflects more emotion along the way with a funeral march progression and solemn air to heighten the stakes." The DLM Interviews Matt Bauer About His Recent Collaborations And New Record.
“One of the things I really like about making records … it’s really fun to see someone bring their own sensibility into something,” he says. “Right now I’m writing an arrangement for another band, one of their songs. It’s fun, it takes you out of the songs that you write or the habits you have.” Read the full interview on The DLM.

Listen to Matt Bauer's Haunting Daytrotter Session Now
"Bauer, as a writer, focuses on those moments that fail to cease. They continue on and they make you worry about them for longer than you'd admit. You want to hear more about them. You'd like the other pieces, for their sparseness and their dances in the gloaming light is enchanting. He sings about those people, places and things passing in the night. It feels like most of what he's interested in occurs during these pitch-black nights, where we can sense that we're not alone, but we can never be sure. We want to know what's out there, what's more. We want to know what's brushing against us, cutting through the air unseen. It seems to be a part of us, so we yearn. He yearns." Visit Daytrotter now.

Matt Bauer's "TIC 1979" Video Premieres On Under The Radar
"Most of Bauer's various touchstones can be heard and seen in the mysterious and snowbound clip, below. Even though "TIC 1979" sounds like the music of a solitary man (RIYL: Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Litlte Wings), Bauer actually collaborated with almost 20 guest musicians from Brooklyn and his former home, San Francisco." Mixtape Muse Reviews Matt Bauer's "The Jessamine County Book of the Living"
"On The Jessamine County Book of the Living, singer-songwriter Matt Bauer might be backed by tasteful, sweeping string arrangements, but it’s his delicate, gentle voice that makes the deepest impact. Bauer sings in a near whisper, his voice quivering as he trails his lines off into the ether. He doesn’t just wear his heart on his sleeve, he practically hands it to you. And while that sounds like the album is weighted down with a glut of melodrama, it’s not, as there’s great poeticism throughout each track."
