TOMORROW'S THE BIG DAY! BOAT'S "SETTING THE PACES"; CAROLYN MARK & N.Q. ARBUCKLE'S "LET'S JUST STAY HERE" ARE OUT!

WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING about BOAT's newest:

"This Seattle band’s 3rd album is their best work yet"--KEXP

"BOAT are an energetic, slightly sloppy, unpretentious happiness machine."--The Stranger

"Setting the Paces is gleefully confessional, steeped in weird metaphors, often silly but always sung with such full-throated earnestness that it's easy to get sucked in. This is, finally, an antidote to humorless, self-important indie pop."--Missoula Independent

"...quixotically messy approach to pop grandiosity"--Pitchfork

"dammit if the tunes aren’t beautifully messy and fun—sorta like my bedroom as a child. And that, my imaginary friend, is one heck of an endorsement."--The Days of Lore

...and about CAROLYN's newest:

"There are breathtaking moments (like the sparkling piano ballad, "Officer Down" or when NQ takes the lead on the lonely road ready "Saskatoon Tonight" and it evolves into beautiful harmonies) that make you feel like NQ and Marks have the potential to evolve into a Can-country version of Nicks and Buckingham.I know you will read that as hyperbole, but "Let’s Just Stay Here" is full of songs for the soul."--HeroHill

"Listening to Mark's voice will immediately make you think of Neko (Case). It's got that dusty twangy feeling to it which would make you believe that the two are honest to goodness sisters, and not just previous bandmates."--Mainstream Isn't So Bad

"Mark and Quinlan can also conjure heartbreak with quick, precise turns of phrase....there's an effective weight to Let's Just Stay Here that casts these two great talents in a whole new light."--Exclaim

"The collaboration of Carolyn Mark and NQ Arbuckle feels intensely natural. The vocals are tremendous, as one would expect from Mark, and the rugged resolve of NQ Arbuckle’s guitars and drums till through like prairie machinery in overdrive."--Blogcritics

FINN RIGGINS VS. WILDERNESS IS OUT TODAY--FILTER FEATURES "WAKE (KEEP THIS TOWN ALIVE)" VIDEO!

Finn Riggins, Wake
by Staff | 10.13.2009

Finn Riggins' new album, Vs. Wilderness, hits stores today, viaTender Loving Empire. To celebrate, the band has released the video for "Wake" which was made by Jason Sievers. His lovely stop motion animation videos and have been featured on Pitchfork and MTV and he's worked for bands like Built to Spill, The Universal and The Wrensto name a few.

The video perfectly captures the energy and hope for the future that Finn Riggins talks about in "Wake." Lyrics about hardships and the daily grind end in a euphoric, layered refrain of "Keep this town alive..." Jason Sievers' video enhances this powerful theme.

It's already pre-released exclusively on iTunes, but this Tuesday, AKA tomorrow, Finn Riggins' Incredible new full-length, VS. WILDERNESS, is out on Tender Loving Empire! OPB Music says:

"Finn Riggins. The peak. They shocked and stunned: Truly amazing, like a locomotive storming into a barn... in years to come this could be the band you wish you were on the front wave of....This is infectious, relentless and the only performance/album I’m reviewing in several years that’s a 7 out of 7."

CATHERINE FEENY KILLED IT AT LAURELTHIRST LAST NIGHT!

Last night, Catherine Feeny kicked off the first day of her tour at Laurelthirst Public House (one of my favorites in town, as they have rad month-long residencies with folks like Laura Veirs and Dolorean--plus delicious pickleburgers), and she slayed. The place was packed as per always--you have to get there early to get a table--and every single person in the super loud bar shut the eff up as soon as Catherine, accompanied by her rad husband and partner in musicmaking, took the stage. You could hear a pin drop.

There wasn't much light in there, so please excuse this being the darkest Feeny video ever, but just listen to the crowd singing along, myself and the tremendous Slim Moon included.

By the way, Riot Act Media has just launched a Vimeo channel called "Riot Act Media's Super Channel of Video Radness"; we aim to post footage of all of the great folks we get to work with on the regular. Check it out! (http://vimeo.com/channels/62506)
