MFNW DAYS ONE AND TWO: WOW!

Now having survived Day One of MFNW, it is on to day two! Last night, we saw Portland Cello Project feat. Justin Power make it happen in a big way at the SPIN MFNW Party at Berbati's Pan--and we met Catherine Feeny and got to see our pal Slim Moon, as well as some bros from the Portland Mercury. We also got to witness the debut show from, no joke, the Portland Ukelele Project (aka PUP), the brainchild of Norfolk & Western drummer Rachel Blumberg. Nick Jaina and members of Loch Lomond were in full force a-strummin', and the walls of Mississippi Studios were covered with the artwork of, among others, Blumberg and Loch Lomond's very own Jason "Huckleberry" Leonard. Portland Cello Project ended their slammin' set with a cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic", sung hilariously and enthusiastically by lead cellist and all-around badass Doug Jenkins. 'Twas quite the kickoff.

On today's plate: Black Whales at 10 PM at Ash Street Saloon, then Norfolk & Western at Berbati's! The Black Whales dudes are super pumped, as their debut, ORIGINS, came out this Tuesday--and Norfolk & Western are about to jam out a month-long tour with Mirah. We'll keep you posted!
